Honestly, as someone who views a great dozen handful of gay films this one is by far one of the most touching and authentic pieces I have ever seen. Thinking back to the years when I was 16 is a stretch all by itself (since I'm now 75), but I certainly knew I was gay when I was 16. "Hidden Kisses" is an anti-bullying and anti-homophobia movie, which are both worthy subjects. When Stéphane finds out Nathan is gay, he turns away from him. On the other hand, there is a warm helpfulness from the boy's father who accepts him in contrast to the other gay kid in the story whose parents don't accept him and try ridiculous means to change him and punish him for being gay. As a new kid in high school, he's invited to a party, where he falls for classmate Louis. But someone takes a photo,which soon ends upon Facebook. Please, I do suggest not letting language barrier prevent you from watching the film. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Nathan, 16, lives alone with his father Stephane. In it there's a gritty side — friends, family, expectations, disappointments and self-loathing that go beyond cliché. With a name like "Hidden Kisses" and that cover photo, what would I expect? Soon, the photo is published on Facebook and a storm overtakes their lives as they face bullying and rejection. Highly recommend it. I can't imagine being 16, at a new school, being invited to a party, liking a boy I met there, seeking a secluded place and kissing him. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. Nontheless, I found this to be one of the most fascinating peices that will go down as one of my favorite foreign gay films. Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2016. Travelling or based outside United States? I told my Mother that I was gay in 1984, when I was divorcing, because I expected my wife to tell her. The worst aspect for Nathan, however, is that Louis, who's in full denial and going out with a girl, also took part in the vicious bullying. For me, in this film in particular, the subtitles seemed to connect me more with the film and in that connection I felt every emotion that the characters were demonstrating. As it happened, I was unwilling to tell my Mother why I needed someone to talk to, and I never got anyone to talk to until I was married, had three children, and joined a gay married men's support group in Chicago. The good news is, that although things aren't perfect, this movie has a happy ending for the boys--they will survive the homophobia of the world. Maybe I sound like a cliche but wow this film was very good and should be watched by every gay individual who is struggling with coming out, or is already out, or is just looking for a damn good movie to cry their hearts out and relate to on an emotional level.
IMDB lists it as a "TV Movie", so I suspect it was produced as a G-Rated "after school special" targeted at teens and young adults. Most gay themed movies are beyond poorly made.
