Childish Gambino. STN MTN, the mixtape flipside of the whole concept record of STN MTN/KAUAI, is an ode to southern hip hop and, like ROYALTY, a more conventional release in being so. The constant contradiction of the Gambino persona is clearest on CAMP, and that’s rendered beautifully in “That Power,” a great track with an incredible closing monologue.

While doing a press run, Gambino ended up in BBC Radio's 1Xtra studio for Live Lounge and he performed a cover of P.M. Dawn’s “I’d Die Without You.” The record was a huge hit back in ‘92, but you don’t hear much P.M. in modern R&B. Peaked at #30 on 08.07.2017. “Easy” – Sick Boi In 2008, Childish Gambino released his debut mixtape dubbed, Sick Boi, due to Glover’s early style of rapping that sounded like he had a stuffy nose. What are your thoughts? But revisiting the first mixtape from Donald Glover (who didn’t know he would continue to release music as Childish Gambino), I wasn’t put off as much by the nasal delivery of his first few years as a rapper.
Bizarrely, all the tracks except two, “Algorhythm” and “Time,” are named simply by their time code on the album; hence 0.00 for the opening track and 53.49 for the final one. This track features Glover’s vocals and lyrics at their very best. And “AWAKEN, MY LOVE!” is the reason why he’s one of my favorite musical artists period. To celebrate, here are Childish Gambino’s top 27 songs leading up to this release: 27. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a collective of creatives to provide truly transcendent artistic experiences. Like everyone else this also changes regularly and was difficult to put together. Not every song is worthy of the album, but some of the best records are the loosies floating in the deep crevices of the internet. By Yoh, aka "Awaken, My Yoh! RANKED: The 27 Greatest Childish Gambino Songs From #27 to #1 In Music by Alec Mandell / December 2, 2016 After nearly two years of silence from rapper Childish Gambino (a.k.a Donald Glover), his highly anticipated third studio album, Awaken, My Love! It remains far too ambiguous lyrically, subjugated in modesty. New, 10 Worst Hard Rock Cover Songs Of All Time, 10 Bands Whose Songs Sound Exactly The Same, 10 Songs You Need To Add To Your Halloween 2020 Playlist, 10 Classic Albums That Were Originally Considered Failures. But it never reaches the catchy highs of the following releases, producing only a few songs currently worth remembering. The boos that followed his debut album Camp is still very fresh in my mind. It came out at a time when I wasn’t as dialed into Glover’s career, so I missed it for some years, in spite of the fact that I think it truly gave him mainstream attention that was cemented by “AWAKEN, MY LOVE!” and appearances in movies like SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (2017) and SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY (2018).
